Vocational college for translators and interpreters

Conditions of admission: (specialist) school leaving examination or successful entry examination; mother tongue should be German or one of the languages mentioned below.

Languages: 2 are to be chosen:

  • German

  • Arabic
  • Chinese

    The two-year vocational training course for translators and negotiating interpreters is based on the curricula and examination regulations approved by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Saarland. This training gives entitlement to a state grant (BaföG) and leads to two diplomas.

    State translator's examination
    At the end of the two-year training course for translators and interpreters with an internal final examination, it is possible to sit the state examination for translators before the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs in one or two foreign languages. This examination is generally held in February in premises to be determined by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

    Qualified translator and negotiating interpreter (FIS internal examination)
    In addition to the main subjects (translation and interpreting exercises) the following compulsory subsidiary subjects must be taken:

  • Commercial correspondence
  • Company economics
  • Law
